Experience

Media Isle of Man

Senior reporter

Written news articles and a number of features covering breaking news, hard and soft stories, and entertainment. Started a monthly section within the Manx Independent called Green Life where I focus on environmental news.

Notable pieces include a front page on one MHK’s horror at the state of the island’s road crossings and another piece covering the inquest that followed a tragedy on one of them, a man’s campaign to end gazumping, and multiple pieces on a charity’s plea to the health minister not to forget Long Covid patients.

Empoword Journalism

Entertainment editor & reporter

An award-winning publication led by women. As editor, I pitch ideas to contributors weekly for them to pick up and write articles on for our entertainment section. I then edit their copy and tailor it to our audience. I also pitch and write pieces of my own choosing.

Pulse Media

Editor-in-Chief

I oversaw other volunteers' ideas and stories, editing my own and others' content. After brainstorming ideas for our website and newspaper, I would put together content callouts on social media where volunteers could respond and take on articles. I organised and held editorial meetings as well as one-to-one meetings with volunteers if they wished to pitch stories face-to-face or talk through ideas.

Part of my job was to liaise often with the vice-president of activities at the Students' Union on games and society events we planned to cover. I also managed Pulse Media's social media, scheduling content to be published on the site and Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels.
